Making a Difference: Matsudo City Unwanted Items Collection Drive

Many people believe they can make a difference in the world around them. Some choose to volunteer their time, while others put more kindness into their everyday interactions.

Whatever your choice, it is important to understand that even small contributions with a heart can be valuable. Nobody can do everything, but everyone can do something!

Donations are tax-deductible.

You can claim a tax deduction for donations of cash or property up to 60 percent of your adjusted gross income (AGI) if you follow the rules and keep good records. Qualifying documentation includes bank statements, credit card statements and receipts from the charity that show the date, amount and name of the organization. If you donated property that is worth more than $250, you must also get a qualified written appraisal of the item.

Noncash donations of household items and clothing are deductible at their fair market value, which is the price you could expect to get for them in a used condition on the date of donation. For other types of property, such as vehicles and inventory, the IRS has published a list of acceptable values or you can get a formal appraisal from an independent qualified appraiser. Donations of the value of your time and services aren't deductible, but you can deduct out-of-pocket expenses you paid while volunteering. These expenses must be directly and solely connected to your volunteer work and not reimbursed by your employer or any other entity. 松戸市 不用品回収

If you don't reach the full 60 percent limit for cash and property donations in a year, you can carry over the unused portion to future years. This is a great way to make sure your donations are going to the most important causes in your community.

Early mornings are routine for 69-year-old Hiroyuki Yamamoto, who is usually at a busy intersection in the Japanese city of Matsudo as an unpaid crossing guard. But one rainy morning a few years ago, he noticed an older woman attempting to cross the street. The woman was disheveled and seemed disoriented, which Yamamoto took as signs of dementia—a condition that he had recently learned about through his city's training.
