The goal is to forgive all of them so that you can release your attachment to the things of this world and be freed from their control.

While the Course teaches that there is no need to identify with a particular cultural group, it is clear that its teachings are directed towards a Western audience. Its language, cultural expressions, Freudian and Platonic elements, and Shakespearean references are all designed to speak to a reader comfortable with the Western culture in which it is set.
